Gandhi Gus

black lab melts on mat
yellow puppy snuggles up
baby teeth on snout

A low, close up shot of two dogs lying down next to each other. The one on the left is an adult black lab. His chin is resting on a mat on a wood floor and he is looking at the camera with his eyes slightly closed, as if "put out." The puppy on the right is a smaller yellow golden retriever/lab mix. He is lying down agains tthe black lab with his head up looking at the camera with his front paws stretched out in front of him. The background is blurry.
As soon as I grabbed my camera, FLD Henry snapped his head away from Gus as if to say, "What? I wasn't doing anything!"  Gus just rolls his eyes.

Poetry: Haiku Flying Puppy

FLD Gus comes flying when called!

"flying puppy"

I merely called "come"
little black Lab wheeled and launched
transformed super-pup!

Poetry: Haiku Teeth

"at 5 1/2 months"

terrible teething
leaves blood spots and horrible breath
canine   hanging    on

FLD Gus looses another tooth.
New teeth coming in; canines still holding.

Poor FLD Gus...he doesn't quite know what to do!

Poetry: Haiku Ice

Ice in the puddles this morning, the day after Thanksgiving, during my morning walk with FLD Gus.

"ice frost"

finger tips tingle
tucked in gloves, puddles shatter
under-boot; don't slip!

Poetry: Haiku Buddha-Belly Puppy

Natalie and FLD Gus, first day, 11 lbs.

"two pounds in two weeks"

she'd best pick him up
every day--Buddha-belly
puppy grows too fast

Sofia watches Natalie try to hang on to FLD Gus two weeks later; 13 lbs.

Poetry: Haiku Scatology

*Warning, the following content might be best viewed after eating, due to its graphic nature.

black scat

late summer berries
fur-lined pile on the paved road
warn "fudgies go home"

Unidentified scat found on the paved road in front of the cabin, the day after Gypsy's night growling!

*For more information about wild animal scat, check out this website:  http://www.bear-tracker.com/animalscat.html (not for the squeamish).

Or, go to out this website developed by the University of Michigan (and others),  for kids of all ages:  http://www.biokids.umich.edu/guides/tracks_and_sign/leavebehind/scat/.

Poetry: Haiku

The following is a Haiku that is part of my "running with my dog..." series (I run with my personal dog, Gypsy). Included is the picture (taken a few summers ago) I used to construct a "performance" of the poem.  (You photographers out there should recognize my reference to a "cooling filter!")

running with my dog . . . in late June

cooling filter skies
belie the opposite effect--
hot sun burns blue through

Picture of a large sunflower, set against the dark blue sky.

And here is my "performance" of the Haiku,
"running with my dog in late June"

Poetry: Spring Haikus

Just a couple of spring Haikus.  (Be careful where you walk!)

"temps in the 60's"

spring rain raises worms
to masquerade as pick-up sticks
leave no where to walk

"too early"

birds chirp, burning beak,
my nose is Tahquamenon
Falls--aahhhhhh--allergies
